THE Penistone district could have 19 turbines within a two-mile radius of Crow Edge, following plans for three of the biggest turbines in Yorkshire were revealed this week.

Energy company E.ON plans to build three 101m turbines at Blackstone Edge, one mile from the approved three-turbine wind farm one mile away at Hazelhead.

The proposed Blackstone Edge turbines will be almost twice the size of the 13 Royd Moor turbines and produce the same total amount of electricity — enough to power up to 3,800 homes.

But residents say enough is enough. Naomi Miller, of Sheffield Road, Crow Edge, said: “We’re not saying we don’t want anything on our doorstep — we’re saying we've got enough on our doorstep already. There’s nothing to stop the developers now.”

Coun Andrew Millner said: “I wouldn't be surprised to see further turbines over the whole of the Penistone area. I can see the reasons why we've been singled out as a windy area, but the feelings of residents have not been taken into consideration.”
