JOBS will be at risk when Mount Vernon Hospital closes later this year, a boss at the trust which operates it admitted this week.

Wards at the hospital are likely to close by next month and the building to fully shut by the end of the year as a new way of delivering care is being drawn up for people who are not ill enough to need an acute hospital bed but too ill to go home.

Mount Vernon will close as a result of these proposals, councillors were told at a scrutiny meeting on Wednesday by Sean Rayner, the district director for the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust which runs the Worsbrough Common hospital.

Mr Rayner said: “If we are reducing two wards, we will not need two wards of domestic or portering staff. There will be staff at risk.”
