Barnsley's attempts to bring Blackburn Rovers' midfielder John O'Sullivan to Oakwell have been 'written off'.

The 21-year-old, who impressed in eight games on loan for the Reds last season, has not played in the Championship for Blackburn this season. But, after being undecided about whether to let him join Barnsley permanently, Rovers have said they are only willing to consider a loan deal or a fee that is well above what the Oakwell club are willing to pay. The Reds already have five loan players, the maximum allowed in a matchday squad.

Chief executive Ben Mansford said the deal has been 'written off'. Head coach Lee Johnson said: "We had John before and he did very well but he is a Blackburn player and, if they've said that (he is staying at Blackburn), it's their prerogative. Of course we'd be interested in John because he's a good player and everybody liked him. But again I'm sorry that he's not our player."
