GUARANTEED childcare places before and after school have been called for by Barnsley MP Michael Dugher.

Mr Dugher said the 'primary childcare guarantee' would make it easier to arrange before and after school care for primary school children.

He said the number of childcare places have fallen by more than 5,000 across the county and is one of the most expensive costs for working parents in Barnsley.

His plans could benefit about 1,800 children in Barnsley.

Additionally, ten extra hours free childcare provision for working parents of three and four-year-olds would be introduced.

Mr Dugher said: "People in Barnsley are facing a cost of living crisis. Extending the free childcare offer from 15 to 25 hours will be worth more than £1,500 for parents of three and four year olds to help them pay their childcare bills."
