BARNSLEY Central MP Dan Jarvis has signed a book to pledge his commitment to honour those who were murdered during the Holocaust.

Dan put his name on the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment to show his promise to Holocaust Memorial Day and to pay tribute to those who were killed, as well as those who survived the Holocaust that work to educate the young people of today.

Holocaust Memorial Day is marked on January 27, the anniversary of the liberation of former Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

“Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity for people from Barnsley and across the country to reflect on the tragedy of the Holocaust,” he said.

“As the Holocaust moves from living history, it is ever more important that we remember those whose lives were lost, and pay tribute to the survivors.

“In remembering those whose lives were destroyed by the evil of the Holocaust, we must also pledge to say ‘never again’ and be resolute in our opposition to anti-Semitism, racism and bigotry.”

Bin dates calendar available online

AN online bin calendar for Barnsley residents to check their collection dates for 2019/20 has been published.

The council used to deliver a leaflet to each household, but since last year information is only available online meaning residents have to visit the council’s website, download its app or print out their own copy to keep track of grey, green, brown and blue bin collections.
