STEPHANIE Peacock MP has spoken out for dementia sufferers in Parliament.

Barnsley group What’s Life Like spoke with the Barnsley East MP about the stigma and quality of care Alzheimer’s patients contend with.

Diane Hinchcliffe, dementia support manager at Alzheimer’s Society, said: “Members of the group and their carers said they felt that people living with dementia are not given control over their own lives.

“People in the group made it clear that they wanted to continue being treated with respect and not discriminated against because of their condition.”

The prevalence of dementia in Barnsley has grown over recent years, increasing the need for awareness and fair treatment.

Stephanie said: “It’s so important that we all work to build a society which is inclusive for those living with dementia.
( “I’m pleased I was able to give voice to my constituents’ concerns in Parliament, and I’ll continue to work so that everyone living with dementia can feel a part of, not apart from, society.”
