BARNSLEY Central MP Dan Jarvis met with members of the Royal College of Nursing at an event last week.

The visit came off the back of a recent meeting between Dan and Andrea Parkin, Barnsley’s nurse ambassador.

“It was good to meet with hardworking and dedicated nurses and discuss the current issues that are facing the sector including the crisis in recruitment and retention and the need to support student nurses through their education and training,” said Dan.

“I’ve always said that nursing is not just a career, it is a vocation, but the government needs to be doing much more to support our nurses and ensuring that there are safe staffing levels throughout the NHS to keep patients safe.

“I have been a long-standing campaigner for greater investment for our NHS and nursing sector throughout my time in Parliament and will continue to campaign on this important issue in the future.”
