THE mother of a teenager who was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer is raising money for a charity close to their hearts.
Daniel Binney was just 16 when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in August 2011.
Now 18, he has been in remission for two years, but mum Trish, 45, of Queen's Drive, Dodworth, still raises money for charities which have provided the family with invaluable support.
She has organised an Elvis tribute night at the East Dene WMC to raise money for children's charity Clic Sargent.
"Daniel is doing really well. He's just passed his driving test and has a year left at Barnsley College where he is studying information technology. He is also hoping to go to Sheffield Hallam University to study game design and web design."
Before his diagnosis, Daniel had complained of pains in his left knee but was told by a doctor they were growing pains.
It was only after a fall at a relative's house that an x-ray taken at accident and emergency revealed the true extent of the problem.
Daniel underwent nine months of chemotherapy, an operation and was given an intravenous drug to help reduce the chances of the cancer returning.
"We were all shocked, it's such a life-changing thing. It's knocked him back a year - he had originally wanted to join the army but there is no chance of that now. He's doing ok though, and he's just getting on with it."
The event will take place on June 21 and will include a raffle and bucket collection.
