A WOMAN who suffered with her mental health has released a book of poems for a Barnsley charity.

Sarah Jay, 24, of Worsbrough Common, has written a book of poems called Just Human, based on her personal journey with mental health.

The proceeds of her book will go to TADS, a charity which provides free complementary therapies to Barnsley people and emotional support to young people struggling with mental health issues.

Sarah said: “I went through a lot as a child at the hands of my father, and my mum also walked out on me and my brother when we were very young.

“We ended up in care and I just spiralled out of control as a teenager.

“No one wanted to listen to me and I knew I was struggling a lot with my mental health, but because I had rainbow coloured hair and an attitude, I was never taken seriously.”

Sarah sought help from a team of mental health nurses and is now studying to be a primary school teacher and also has a four-year-old son.

She has been volunteering at TADS and she supports the benefits that the service provides and wanted to give something back to the organisation.

She said: “It’s an amazing charity and they offer a fantastic support network to young people and they are not judgemental.

“I think if I had access to such a service things may be different now.”

Sarah’s book is available from TADS in Queens Road, Barnsley, or you can contact TADS via Facebook.
