A MURDER investigation has been launched after a man found seriously injured in a Barnsley street died in hospital.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 46-year-old man was found in Monsal Street, Thurnscoe, on Thursday by paramedics.

The police were called shortly after 4.40pm and the man was taken to hospital, where he remained in critical condition until he died yesterday (Sunday).

Detectives are now treating their inquiry as a murder investigation and continue to appeal for information about the circumstances surrounding how the man came to be injured.

Two men, aged 31 and 41-years-old, were arrested on suspicion of assault but both have been bailed pending further enquiries.

The man’s family have been notified and are receiving support from specially-trained officers.
