DO YOU have any photographs of local soldiers who fell at the battle of the Somme?

If so the people at Barnsley Museums would like to hear from you.

As part of a public art project to commemorate the battle, staff at Barnsley Museums are keen to see photographs of those brave men who fell on July 1 1916.

The installation, which will be created by artists Musson and Retallick and local school children, will remember the heroic men who risked their lives fighting for King and Country.

Displayed outside the town hall from Friday July 1 until Remembrance Sunday, the artwork will depict 300 men who died on that date 100 years ago - the first day of the war’s bloodiest battle.
