MYSTERY surrounds the sale of a building in Kendray for almost £6.5m - one of the most expensive property sales ever recorded with the Land Registry in Barnsley.

According to the Land Registry website, Kendray Day Centre For The Elderly was sold in November for £6,490,000.

The registered owner is listed on the title deed as LSGRE 2 Limited of Piccadilly, London, but the Chronicle was unable to make contact with the firm this week.

No planning applications have been submitted recently for the site. The Chronicle went to the address but nobody there seemed to know anything about the sale.

According to the Land Registry website, only four individual properties in Barnsley have sold for more than £5m - the most expensive being the B and Q store at Stairfoot, which was sold in December 2015 for just over £18m.
