A BARNSLEY woman paid an emotional tribute to the man who brought her up by changing her name to his and so fulfilling his dying wish.

Amy Ackroyd applied to Barnsley Magistrates Court to change her name to Amy Booth.

When she was asked by the legal advisor why she wanted to change her name Amy said: “My biological father’s name was Ackroyd but the man who brought me up was called Robert Booth.”

She tearfully explained that Mr Booth, who was 60, had brought her up since she was a baby.

And that it was his dying wish that she take his name.

“He said changing my name would make him very proud.

“I hoped to change it before he died but he was so ill we lost him sooner than it took to make the application.

“And now I’m here today to do that.”

The application was granted.

Amy Booth, of Cloughfields Road, Hoyland, proudly left the court thanked the magistrates and wished them ‘a very good day’.
