A CLASSIC car enthusiast says he has been targeted by thieves who stole a car he has kept in pristine condition for nearly 30 years.

Nasser Ahmed, who has owned Nasser’s Mini Market in Mapplewell for 40 years, bought the G Reg five-door Ford Granada new for £8,100 in 1989 and has done only 42,000 miles in it since.

Nasser woke last Tuesday to find the car, which he said is now so rare and in such great condition it could be worth up to £20,000, had vanished from the locked garage behind his shop on Darton Lane where it was kept.

Nasser, 76, who lives at the shop, said: “I knew the road tax was running out so I was getting ready to sort that out. I went in the garage and it was gone.

“It was there on Monday night so it must have happened early Tuesday morning.

“You can see marks on the door probably about the size of a screwdriver, so they’ve used something to clip it and then they shut it back. There’s no damage to the door, only the two marks at the top. They knew what they were doing.

“The police are looking into it but I would like to get to the bottom of it myself if I can.

“I want it back in one piece and I’m happy to pay to do so. It’s like a baby to me, it has big sentimental value.”

Nasser has offered a £500 reward for information on the car’s disappearance, and £1,000 for information directly leading to its safe return.

Anyone with information can contact Nasser on 384622 or South Yorkshire Police, quoting incident 14/133566/18.
