A BARNSLEY man has become the national president of JCI UK.

The organisation, Junior Chamber International, is a personal development group for young professional and Ben Hawley is the first national president from JCI Barnsley.

Ben, 35 and from Wortley, who works as a start-up advisor for the council’s business help arm, Enterprising Barnsley, was presidents of JCI Barnsley in 2014.

In 2015 he was conference director of JCI UK’s national conference, held at the Holiday Inn, Dodworth.

As part of his role, Ben will lead a national board and provide support for local presidents.

He said: “JCI provides a safe environment for its members to develop and test their skills base in a safe, supportive environment which can then be taken back into their roles in a business. It’s a great way for develop a work force for any business. If an organisation has a member of staff they see as a future leader in the company or will be taking on greater responsibility, then JCI membership is a great way to develop their skills.”

Beverley Mackfall, 30, of Dodworth, was elected local president of JCI Barnsley last month and is the fourth Mackfall to don the chamber’s presidential chains, following in the footsteps of her parents, Nigel and Laura, and sister Jo.

Beverley, who works at Cannon Hall Farm but is moving to IKEA, is supporting local charities Barnsley Independent Alzheimers and Dementia Support and Rotherham and Barnsley Mind.
