A £3.25 MILLION medical centre will open its doors in Barnsley town centre next month, looking after 4,000 extra patients.

The Burleigh Medical Centre will combine two existing GP surgeries in the town operated by the Park Grove General Partnership and its development was supported by Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.

Dr Sumanth Chikthimmah, general practitioner for the Park Grove General Partnership said the development had been many years in the making and would be a huge boost for the people of Barnsley.

He said: “With the opening of the Burleigh Medical Centre, we’re excited to build on our surgeries’ excellent reputation for providing a high standard of healthcare.

“Relocating the two sites under one roof means being able to provide improved services and facilities in a convenient and accessible town-centre location.

“Many organisations have worked very hard to bring our vision into reality and this centre will be a great place for our patients and staff.”

The new site will include an onsite pharmacy and a large car park. The clinics based at Park Grove and Cope Street will merge and move to their new home on Burleigh Street.

The partnership is also expecting to take on five new staff in the next 12 months to support the expansion.

Malcolm Swan, senior healthcare banking consultant at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “The Park Grove General Partnership is a clear example of a thriving healthcare provider growing to meet the increased needs of patients across the region. ”
