There is a new app available to download from today that is an essential tool for any savvy shopper to Barnsley’s town market.

My Barnsley app has been designed to give users all the essential information they need about the town’s market stalls at their fingertips and what’s more it is available to download for free on both IOS and Android devices.

The easy-to-use app has some great features from how to locate stalls, check opening times, create your own shopping list, favourites, as well as the latest special offers available through Beevouchers.

Every stall in the indoor market, including the meat and fish market and the semi-market, is listed on the app and they each have their very own profile page.

Here users can view a description of the business, opening times and a floor-plan of the market pinpointing the stall’s exact location and instantly access any offers that may be available.

Contact details are also available with most profile’s including a telephone number, text message option, email address and website link, enabling the user to get in touch with stall holder with their enquires.

Stalls can be searched for by name or through popular classifications such as ‘books’ and ‘magazines’, ‘food’, ‘fashion’ and ‘health and beauty’.

Council spokesman Roy Miller said: “We’re all really excited about this app, which has been developed with funding from the Portas Pilot. Barnsley’s market is still one of the most highly-regarded in the country and has long been the backbone of the town centre shopping experience, with so many traders and a huge variety of stalls.

“This new app will allow people who are not as familiar with the market as others to see what’s available, from where, and for how much, without having to leave their sofa. It also helps you navigate round the market while you’re there, and you’ll also be able to make the most of many excellent offers.

"Pretty soon, the app will also be expanded to include the whole town centre, to include everything from big corporate retailers to our fantastic range of small, independent shops. In the future, there’s even the potential to roll the app out further to include the shopping centres in other areas in the borough.

“I am proud to see the ideas put forward by the council and developed in partnership with the Chronicle come to fruition, and I’m convinced that the app will prove a huge success with customers and of great value to traders and the wider town centre.”

To download the free My Barnsley app today visit the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Android).

It doesn’t stop there. There are already plans to launch a town centre category, which will bring with it an abundance of useful information on businesses surrounding the markets.
