A NEW bus service is on its way to Shafton and the operator behind it has vowed to rectify the village's long-running issues with public transport.

The service, run by Watersons Coaches, will start on September 1.

Badsworth-based Watersons, which already runs a service which goes to Shafton Two Gates, researched what its existing users wanted before announcing the new 35 and 36 buses which will run from Barnsley to South Elmsall via Cudworth, Shafton, Brierley and Hemsworth.

General manager Ron Waterson said: "I can assure Shafton residents that this will provide a reliable, punctual service which can be relied on."
