THE first rehearsal of Barnsley’s newest choir which forms the latest section of the world-famous Barnsley Youth Choir was a resounding success.

About 50 youngsters attended the rehearsal at Emmanuel Church last Friday.

Eleanor Wright is the musical director, supported by her husband Mat Wright, BYC musical director, as well as assistant MD Georgie Bennett, a founding member of the youth choir who is now at university and also working as a leader of the junior choir.

“It went really very well,” said Mat. “We had all the parents waiting outside the room, which we were a little anxious about with 50 very young children, but they were fantastic.”

They sang songs including Come Alive from ht film The Greatest Showman, and Toot Sweets from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

It is hoped the choir will be able to join the older children on Barnsley Youth Choir in concerts - but only when they are already.

Anyone wishing to add their child’s name to the waiting list should email bycjuniorchoir@gmail.com
