A NEW advice service to help those with financial problems in the Hoyland area will be launched in the summer - to replace a successful scheme which is expected to have assisted residents to the value of £2m by the time it is wound up.

The One Stop advice service has been financed by the South Area Council, which has Barnsley Council money to spend on improving the lives of people living in the district.

It has proved tremendously effective and the contract to operate it was extended by six months to allow time for bidders to put in tenders to continue the work.

The current scheme is operated as a joint venture between Citizens Advice and Barnsley Council’s welfare rights team, providing a level of service the council cannot afford to support across the borough.
