PLANS to demolish a row of ‘eyesore’ terraced houses and replace them with modern family homes have been approved by councillors.

Berneslai Homes made the application to clear the site of 12 houses on Baden Street, Worsbrough Bridge, which open straight onto the pavement, and build a row of eight terraced council houses which will incorporate off-street parking.

They will include a three-bedroom property and seven two-bedroom homes.

The development has been long-planned but was delayed when one resident refused to leave and the council had to take out a compulsory purchase order.

“I’m very pleased,” said Coun Gill Carr, who represents the Worsbrough ward.

“This is what that area needs.

“They’ve been an eyesore for years now. There was talk some years ago of refurbishing them, but I went in one and the staircase was like a ladder. They’re just not suitable now for families.”
