HOUSING firm Berneslai Homes has engaged in a novel recycling scheme by partnering with a local school.

The company has donated all of its off-cuts of wood to Netherwood ALC, which has allowed students to hone their woodworking skills.

Students have developed the off-cuts into their ‘homes for hedgehogs’ project.

The donation continues the project started last year by the company, which delivers Barnsley Council’s housing services, to donate its surplus wood to the school’s design and technology department.

Gillian Totty, community engagement officer at Berneslai Homes, said: “The off-cuts normally end up in the skip so it’s a fantastic contribution to waste reduction and fits in brilliantly with one of our key objectives of ‘doing the right thing’.”
