CONTENTIOUS plans to build 139 homes close to Penistone town centre have been put on hold due to concerns about access to the development.

Members of Barnsley Council's planning board voted unanimously to defer a decision on proposals for a mix of two, three, four and five bedroom properties off Hartcliffe Road.

Developer Persimmon Homes wants the entrance to the development to be on Hartcliffe Road but some residents and councillors feel it is too narrow and unsuitable.

Planning officers will now meet with Persimmon to discuss alternative entrances to the development.
