IT SHOULD have been the biggest change for shoppers in Hoyland in a generation - but the market’s move to a new site had to be postponed this week because of a technical hold-up.

Stallholders who turned up Tuesday expecting to sell from new stalls on Southgate were told to return to their old pitches at the Market Street site which should have ceased trading last Saturday.

Although they were told problems with the electricity supply to the new stalls was to blame, officials offered no explanation about how long the delay might last, said stallholder Keith Rodgers, who has been trading for almost two decades.

Developers Resilienti had problems with an electrical supply service for the site, which could not be installed in time and meant the site did not have the power it needed to be used by traders.
