LIBRARIES have to be more than somewhere to borrow books these days, and the all new Library @ the Lightbox is certainly that.
This beautiful new building promises to be so much more than just a library which will be an absolutely integral feature of our new town centre.
The fantastic space inside features so much attention to detail. The stairs have two bannisters, one for adults and one for children.
There are chairs that have USB ports so you can charge your phone, there is an adult changing facility for those with disabilities and mobility issues, which will be the second one in town, and once the redevelopment is complete, the library’s huge windows will provide fantastic views across the town centre.
Library @ the Lightbox is just what the town centre needs and it really will grow to be a community hub.
Kathryn Green, head of libraries and information said: “Books are still an integral part of the library but the way we look for information and the reasons people use the library is changing and we have worked hard to ensure that we have adapted to the changes and we are a flexible space.”
The library will have late night openings twice a week, rooms that you can hire, 22 public access computers and range of community activities including state of the art Tovertafel, an interactive system using light projections.
The grand opening of Library @ the Lightbox will take place tomorrow with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10am and there will be a raft of family activities planned including Peter Rabbit making an appearance and actor and storyteller Chris Cade hosting a story time session.
