A NEW £1.2m medical centre which will serve more than 5,000 patients is being built in Barnsley.

Dodworth Medical Centre is being built on Woodland Drive, off Broadway, and is expected to be completed by autumn.

Three GPs will be based at the new surgery which will have disabled access, a community cafe and parking. There will be various clinics, including ante-natal, baby, asthma and stop smoking, and a pharmacy.

The new centre will replace the existing medical centre on Dodworth Road.

The single storey L-shaped building has been designed by Race Cottam Architects, of Sheffield, and will be clad in pale grey brick and varying shades of green render and will be next to a large public open space.
