AN enforcement officer who will target absent landlords, antisocial behaviour issues and fly-tippers will start work in Brierley, Cudworth, Great Houghton, Grimethorpe and Royston in the coming weeks.

A delay in the tendering process has postponed the new officer’s arrival, although Coun Jeff Ennis told the Chronicle that the North East Area Council - which has spent £35,000 on a 12-month contract - were confident that no more snags will be found.

“The officer should be in place in the coming weeks. We are all well aware of what is going on and this is why extra help is needed to tackle them. Grimethorpe is a hotspot for it and we are hoping greater intelligence will come from this officer.

“This will be an important addition to the village as many streets have been blighted by it. It tends to happen in the same areas on a regular basis so I am pleased this will help to clampdown on it.”
