A SHAKE-UP of the Goldthorpe policing hub has resulted in the appointment of a new sergeant.

Mark Ellis will replace outgoing Sgt Gary Bramhall from today, who has been made an inspector, as he moves on to a new role in Sheffield.

Another member of the team, PC Jason Pearson who worked as the temporary sergeant at Royston station earlier this year is heading to Mexborough to become their new sergeant.

Chief Supt Scott Green, Barnsley District Commander, said: “I’m thrilled to be welcoming Sgt Ellis to Barnsley and I have no doubt that the team at Goldthorpe will give him a warm welcome.

“Sgt Ellis brings with him a wealth of experience, with more than 20 years in policing serving local communities.

“I would also like to thank Insp Bramhall and Sgt Pearson for their efforts and hard work across the district and congratulate them on their recent promotions.”

Goldthorpe station has been at the forefront of a scheme Police Now which is a two-year programme for graduates which gives on-the-job training to budding officers.

Police Now was piloted by the Metropolitan Police and this year expanded to nearly half of all police forces across the country including South Yorkshire.

The aim is to bring in new faces with fresh ideas, according to the police, who want to have more diverse staff in place.

Chf Supt Green added: “I hope that residents join me in welcoming Sgt Ellis to the team and I’m sure many people living in Goldthorpe will meet him over the coming weeks as he gets to grips with his new patch and continues building excellent relationships within the community.
