A PREMIER League assistant referee said he was honoured to have ‘played a part in football history’ after officiating the first game at Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, reported to have cost £1 billion, saw its first home game on Wednesday night.

And the match was also a special one for Royston-based linesman Scott Ledger.

Scott, 42, said: “The atmosphere was really good, it was a typical Premier League game. But it was the biggest stadium I’ve been to, by far. It was like being in a six-star hotel, it was very impressive.”

Scott, who also plays cricket for West Bretton, saw Spurs come away with a two-nil win against Crystal Palace.

“We were pleased to play a positive part in the result,” said Scott, who lives off Barnsley Road in Darton.

“No one was talking about us after the game, which means we did a good job.”
