THE FUTURE of a new supermarket was thrown into doubt this week before it’s even finished after the shock announcement that all Netto supermarkets across the north are to close this summer.

Netto was in the process of building a supermarket in Thurnscoe and had also been due to open a new store as part of Hoyland town centre’s redevelopment. It was also mooted as one of the retailers interested in redevelopment of the former Foulstone school at Darfield.

But Sainsbury’s, which revived the brand in the UK 2014, announced this week it was walking away from its joint venture with Danish retailer Dansk Supermarked Group.
