THE Barnsley Retirees' Action Group is supporting the People's March for the NHS which will pass through the town on Sunday.

The march was the idea of a group of mothers from Darlington, County Durham, who decided to follow in the footsteps of the famous Jarrow Marchers who walked all the way to London back in 1936.

The group of 'Darlo Mums' organised a replica march in support of the NHS.

Around 200 marchers left Jarrow Town Hall on August 16 and are due to arrive in Parliament Square on September 6.

The message from the mums is a simple one - that the NHS is owned by and loved by everyone and every effort will be made to stop it being sold off.

The walkers will leave Wakefield on Sunday, getting to Staincross at the junction of Wakefield Road and Bar Lane at around 2.30pm.

They will then pass via Wakefield Road, Smithies Lane, Bond Road and Greenfoot Lane to Barnsley Hospital.
