A NIGHTCLUB which council officers found had a car parked on the dance floor when they investigated a noise complaint has escaped losing its licence.

A review of Whispers on Regent Street was called for by police following a string of incidents over the course of a year including allegations underage drinking, antisocial behaviour and assaults, private parties spiralling out of control and a hardcore live sex show being advertised.

Police pressed for the council to strip Whispers of its licence citing irresponsible management had failed to keep the club under control, prevent underage boozing, disturbances on the premises and poor staff training.

The sub-committee panel deliberated for some time before opting not to revoke the licence and instead impose additional conditions.
