Oliver Rowland's chances of winning the Formula Two title finally ended in Spain this week but two podium finishes give him reason to hopeful.

The 25-year-old from Penistone finished second in the first race in Jerez, less than a quarter of a second behind Charles Leclerc – who secured the overall title – then was third in the second race. The 30 points he picked up meant it was Rowland's second most successful weekend of the season.

With the final race of the year in the UAE at the end of next month, Rowland has moved further clear of the drivers just behind him – although he could still finish as low as fifth – while his team DAMS Racing are just two points behind their rivals PREMA in the constructors' championship. He is hoping his efforts this season will secure a place in Formula One with Renault, for whom he is the development driver.

Oliver said: "I pushed and I did my best, but well done to Charles on the championship. He's done a fantastic job. We still have the team championship to think about.I have to be reasonably happy with two podiums which is a pretty good weekend."
