Penistone Footpath Runner Norman Cole, 83, completed his 250th ParkRun this week, less than a year after being diagnosed with cancer.

Norman, who had 18 weeks of treatment after the bladder and lymphnode cancer was found late last year, started running again in April following a successful course of chemotherapy. He completed the weekly Barnsley 5k ParkRun at Locke Park on Saturday then was presented with a commemorative plaque and was joined by his friends and family.

Norman, who lives in Oxspring, said: "I would like to thank all the Parkrunners for their support and the standing ovation I received running into the finish. I would consider every one of them a friend.

"The support of the local running community helped me so much when I was ill which obviously was a difficult time. It's taken a while to get to 250 but I'm proud to have done it. I will carry on for as long as I can because it keeps me fit and healthy."
