Gerhard Struber believes the defending from set pieces that cost Barnsley in their loss at Charlton Athletic will lead to relegation unless it improves quickly.
Charlton led 2-0 at half-time from two set piece goals and, although Cauley Woodrow pulled one back, the Reds’ defeat left them seven points from safety in second-bottom.
Struber said: “It is a very disappointing defeat and it was not necessary, especially when you look at the second half when we had very good chances. In the end, we were a little unlucky.
“The big difference was set pieces once again. We don’t learn from the last games and it is always the same mistakes and we do not stay in our structure. That is why we have have zero points. It is so so so disappointing and I have no words for my feelings now.
“Set plays are a part of football and, in the set play situation, we are not ready for the Championship now. This is the reality. In all the other phases of play, we are good enough for the Championship, but not in the set plays. I believe we can stay in the league but we have to change our mindset for set plays.
"It makes it worse because we spent a lot of time this week in training on set pieces and in the end we have no improvement. We have the same problems and we make no step in the right direction. It is very frustrating."
Struber thanked the 1,083 fans in the away end. He said: “I am very happy with our fans. They supported us very well but, in the end, we have zero points and that is the frustrating situation.”
Goalkeeper Sami Radlinger told the Chronicle: “Today we are very disappointed. It was not a nice ten minutes in the dressing room after the game and everybody was down. Today we had a good chance to get nearer to the other teams in the league table so I am very very disappointed.
“We made too many fouls that cost us set plays then we conceded both goals from the set plays. The first goal was very early and shocked us maybe a little bit. We were down 2-0 and it was very hard.
“In the second half we showed a different face and we very unlucky to hit the post three times. You could see everybody was fighting in the second half.”
