POLICE tasked with keeping tabs on Barnsley’s illegal off-road bikers have told those responsible to expect more operations geared towards stopping them in their tracks.

The increased action days began yesterday, which saw officers receiving a briefing at Cudworth’s police station before they combed worst-hit areas in the North East ward including Grimethorpe.

Sergeant Richard Wilson told the Chronicle: “We had our own bikes to use as well as the force’s four-wheel-drive Land Rover. We can assure residents that we’re listening to their complaints about illegal off-roaders and we’re taking action.

“There will be three or four similar operations in the coming month, so we’re hopefully going to make inroads into the problem that’s blighted Barnsley.”
