YORKSHIRE House will continue to stand empty after a planning application for 19 apartments was turned down by the council.

PRA1 Ltd, based in London, had applied for a change of use of the former offices, above a hairdressing salon, Italian restaurant and the former Soul Lounge pub on Shambles Street.

A decision notice, issued by planning boss Joe Jenkinson, states the applicant had failed to demonstrate how residents would live with noise from commercial properties in the immediate area.

It also states the applicant had not submitted sufficient details to prove beyond doubt that the building was used for business use on or before May 29, 2013.
