Chris O'Grady has hinted he would like to stay at Barnsley beyond the end of the season.

The striker is on loan from Sheffield Wednesday and his three goals and strong centre-forward displays have helped the Reds climb out of the relegation zone and above his parent club.

Owls fans have criticised their manager, Dave Jones, for loaning O'Grady to a relegation rival and the striker admitted it was an 'emotional day' when the two sides met on Saturday.

Referring to Barnsley as 'we', O'Grady said: "It was a disappointing result. We deserved more out of that game. "We played well and should have got a better result."

The former Rochdale striker has another year to run on his contract at Hillsborough and Wednesday are expected to demand a transfer fee if Barnsley try to make the move permanent.

O'Grady said: "I'm definitely enjoying my football at the moment. You want to prove that you are better than your club thinks you are. If you are not regarded as an important player to the team then you have to prove that you are and that is what I have done. That's what I have been determined to do since I have been here.

"I am not looking too far ahead regarding the situation at Wednesday. I am just focused on every game that comes between now and the end of the season."
