Barnsley could complete their first unbeaten home league season since 1968 against Blackpool tomorrow.

The Reds are unbeaten in 26 league matches at Oakwell since March of last year, winning 16 and drawing ten. This season they have won 14 and drawn eight of their 22 home games.

Coach Dale Tonge said: “It’s been alluded to quite often throughout the season. It’s an added incentive but mainly we are focusing on three points and putting a performance on for the fans. The home record is something we can be proud of but it will pale in significance if we don’t win on Saturday. I am hoping Oakwell will be bouncing and I think a lot of fans will turn up.”

Blackpool are ninth and cannot reach the play-offs, having won just three of their last 14 games. They drew 0-0 at lowly Scunthorpe on Friday then scored a 94th-minute winner in their local derby with Fleetwood Town on Monday. They are unbeaten in three away games including a 4-1 win at bottom club Bradford City and a 2-2 draw at leaders Luton Town who netted a late leveller. They have the best defensive record outside the top five.

Tonge added: “They are hard to beat, dangerous on the counter and they have had good results against the top six. They are stress-free with the position they are in in the table so we’re expecting a really tough game. They have come through a lot of off-field things but they have managed it outstandingly.”

This will be the 103rd meeting between the two clubs, with Barnsley winning 45 and losing 32. The Reds have not lost a league game against the Tangerines in four meetings since 2013. Blackpool won their last match at Oakwell, a 2-1 success in an FA Cup replay in January 2017. The clubs have already met twice this season, both at Bloomfield Road. Barnsley crashed out of the League Cup in August, with a 3-1 defeat having led through a George Moncur strike. They returned in December to win 1-0 in the league thanks to Cameron McGeehan’s goal.
