AN URGENT meeting to discuss plans to create a traffic gyratory system in Penny Pie Park at Pogmoor will be held next week after opposition councillors triggered further scrutiny of the decision.

The council, whose planning board awarded permission for the controversial scheme off Dodworth Road before Christmas, rubber-stamped the project at a cabinet meeting last week.

However, a ‘call-in’ was requested by Dodworth ward’s Coun Peter Fielding, which was backed by Couns Hannah Kitching, David Greenhough, Jake Lodge and Steve Hunt.

The council’s overview and scrutiny committee can opt to support the cabinet’s original decision or, if it backs the councillors’ call-in, it can either refer the matter back to cabinet with an alternative recommendation or full council for a debate.

A report said: “The chair of the committee (Coun Jeff Ennis) has exercised their right to seek an urgent meeting to deal with the matter as an urgent item in recognition of the public’s current interest.”
