OUTRAGED parents at a Grimethorpe primary school have been told pupils can no longer eat packed lunches and must pay for a school dinner.
Pupils at Milefield Primary were sent home with a letter from headteacher Paula Murray on Friday - the day the school broke up for the holidays - informing parents of the changes.
The letter explains the government initiative of providing a free school meal for children up to the age of seven. But it goes on to say changes are being made which will impact all children. Parents must pay £1.75 per child, per day from September, and the children will get breakfast of a slice of toast, milk and a healthy morning snack, lunch and homemade pudding, and an afternoon snack of fruit.
A spokesman for the school said: "Milefield Primary School's governing body has taken the decision to implement a whole school meal provision in line with government guidance."
