A ROARSOME day out was had when dinosaurs visited Thurnscoe last weekend.

Phoenix Park hosted hundreds of people who turned out in their droves to meet the huge prehistoric creatures.

Organised by Thurnscoe Big Local, the event gave them the chacne to meet a huge animatronic T-rex, baby dinosaurs with their handlers, a huge dinosaur egg which people could have their photo taken inside.

Animals such as alpacas, donkeys and reptiles were also there to handle.

Community stalls offered a range of craft and environmental activities and there was face painting, inflatables and a range of craft and catering stalls present too.

Big Local Thurnscoe development worker Alison Vint said: “We were delighted with the success of our first community event of 2018. Hundreds of people joined us on a beautiful day in one of our best local attractions to see all creatures great and small and access a new Dinosaur Trail through Phoenix Park.

“One of our key priorities is bringing people together and this event was a great example of how this can be achieved through partnership working. We would like to thank all of our hardworking Big Local Thurnscoe volunteers, the community stalls who came to provide information to local residents, The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) who worked with us to get the site prepared and provided toasted marshmallow and den building activities on the day, and Voluntary Action Barnsley and XPO who helped us with extra volunteers on the day.

“We look forward to welcoming families to our next event, the Beach Party in the Park on August 4 in Thurnscoe Flower Park.”
