Jon Parkin believes it is vital that his hometown club Barnsley keep his former house-mate and team-mate Kieffer Moore.

Parkin, 36, and Moore, 25, were both at Forest Green during the 2015/16 season when the Gloucestershire side lost in the National League play-off final. The two tall targetmen strikers also lived together and remain friends. Parkin, from Darfield, played against Barnsley for York City who lost 7-1 on Tuesday with Moore among the scorers.Kieffer is being linked with moves back to the Championship with the relegated Reds having rejected several approaches.

Parkin told the Chronicle: "It's 100 per cent important that Barnsley keep hold of him. It would be a huge loss. He's proved last season with Rotherham (a 13-goal loan spell from Ipswich) that he can score goals in League One and goal-scorers are the hardest players to find. But I understand that Kieffer wants to play at the highest level he can and that's just the way football is. It's up to him and whether the powers that be at Barnsley get a bid that's acceptable.

"He's come on massively from when I played with him. He was very raw but you could tell he had ability. He's obviously worked very hard. I saw him play a few games for Barnsley last season and I thought he looked decent. He's a lovely kid. He deserves all the success he is getting."
