CHAT show king Sir Michael Parkinson has paid tribute to the ‘most extraordinary man he ever met’ - Muhammad Ali.

Barnsley-born Sir Michael famously interviewed the former heavyweight world champion boxer, who died on Friday, four times in the 1970s and 80s on his Parkinson TV chat show.

He described the death of his long-time friend a ‘sad blessing’. “He’d been ill for some time,” Sir Michael told the BBC, “and it had been sad actually seeing that great figure of a man reduced to what he had become, unable to articulate his feelings, a man who actually was one of the most extraordinary ‘talkers’ I had ever come across.

“He was an extraordinary man, a political animal, all of those things. The one I prefer to remember most of all is the funny guy, the guy with the wonderful sense of humour.”
