AN OPHTHALMOLOGY consultant and her team have been nominated for a Proud of Barnsley award by an 85-year-old patient who said their professionalism and dedication is second to none.

Bernice Charlesworth, of Swift Street in Barnsley, has nominated Anne-Marie Firan and her team for the Hospital Hero award.

Bernice has been a patient for five years and said she had never seen them anything other than pleasant, helpful and approachable.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine dealing with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the eye and visual system.

Bernice said: “As a regular patient aged 85, I can honestly say their professionalism and dedication is second to none. I have been a patient for five years and have never seen them anything other than pleasant, helpful and approachable, even when the clinic is bursting at the seams. Sometimes they move so quickly I think a supply of roller skates might be helpful.

“Although Ms Firan is not Barnsley born and bred, we who are owe her, and her team, under her leadership, a debt of gratitude and sincerely hope she will stay forever.”
