Stefan Payne hit a 13-minute hat-trick to begin Barnsley's 6-0 thrashing of Weston Super Mare on Saturday.

The Reds netted six in half an hour as Conor Hourihane, Adam Hammill and new boy Tom Bradshaw also struck.

After a goalless first half, Payne opened the scoring five minutes after the break when he tackled a defender on the edge of the home box and beat the goalkeeper.

It was 2-0 on 59 minutes when Payne fired in the rebound after George Moncur cut in from the left and had a shot which was saved. Four minutes later Payne completed his treble by heading in an Hammill cross from the right wing.

Captain Hourihane, brought on at the break with Hammill, made it 4-0 on 72 minutes with a cool finish after running onto a pass from Tom Bradshaw who had just come on.Hammill got the fifth, and the best of them all, as he curled a fantastic shot into the top right corner.

Bradshaw then scored on his debut as he headed in at the back post from an Aidy White cross. The new man also hit the post late on and was denied by some good saves on an impressive first appearance.

The score would have been significantly higher if the home goalkeeper had not made several excellent saves including a top point blank stop from Shaun Tuton and a good touch to put a Kayden Jackson strike over the bar.

After humbling the seasiders from the National League South, Barnsley will visit League Two Cheltenham on Tuesday before welcoming Premier League sides Everton and Hull.
