Defender Matty Pearson has moved to Barnsley's League One rivals Luton Town for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old joined from Accrington Stanley a year ago and made 19 appearances as the Reds were relegated from the Championship. Most of his appearances came before Christmas under Paul Heckingbottom but his last start was the 3-1 home loss to Fulham on January 27. He made just two substitute appearances under replacement head coach Jose Morais in February.

Pearson is understood to have said goodbye to team-mates on Monday morning before moving down to the Bedfordshire club who have been promoted from League Two. Barnsley chief executive Gauthier Ganaye has claimed the club made a profit on Pearson and that the deal contains a sell-on clause.

He is the second fringe player to be moved on this summer after Austrian midfielder Christoph Knasmullner who was sold to Rapid Vienna earlier this month. Barnsley's players returned to Oakwell this week for pre-season training under new head coach Daniel Stendel.
