PEEL Square is one of the town centre areas where council bosses want to introduce a voluntary smoking ban to stop kids taking up the habit.

Future proposals for inspiring a smoke free generation also include making Queen Street and Cheapside up to the Alhambra shopping centre and across to the May Day Green temporary market, and Market Street and the link to Cheapside via Albert Street East, smoke-free zones.

The first phase of the voluntary smoke-free zones is the area around the town hall and Pals’ Centenary Square, which is set to be launched on June 30.
