Two of Barnsley's top non-league clubs will take a break from their promotion charges on Tuesday to face each other for a place in the Sheffield Senior Cup final at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane.

Shaw Lane AFC, the highest non-league side in the town and the Evo-Stik Division One South leaders, will host the semi-final against Penistone Church who are also competing for promotion two leagues below in the Northern Counties East League Division One.

The winner will go through to the final on April 19 against either Handsworth Parramore or Frickley Athletic who play next week. Penistone could reach Bramall Lane twice in one season as they are also in the semi-final of the NCEL League Cup – at home against either Hallam or Glasshoughton Welfare on April 18, with the final due to be played on May 17.

Their manager Ian Richards is looking forward to Tuesday's trip to Shaw Lane. He said: "It will be a brilliant occasion for the town and for both clubs.  It's also a chance for my players to test themselves against the best team in the local area and one of the best teams at Evo-Stik level. Shaw Lane don't really have any weaknesses but we will try to nullify their threat, frustrate them and nick a goal.

"The two clubs have very different approaches. We are a community club who have been here for 100 years, and they have only been around for a few years and have a lot more money.  But there is no right or wrong way to run a football club and I respect Shaw Lane very much, not just for their success on the pitch but also for the way they handled the sad death of Daniel Wilkinson (on the pitch while playing for the Ducks side in September)."

The two clubs clashed in 2013 when they both applied for promotion from the County Senior League and league winners Shaw Lane were initially refused entry to the NCEL as they had allegedly missed the deadline for ground improvements. Penistone were announced as being promoted but were replaced by Shaw Lane after an appeal hearing at Wembley.

Richards said: "That is all water under the bridge now. The FA made their decision and we've all moved on. Shaw Lane are putting Barnsley on the non-league map and success breeds success so we are looking to follow them up the leagues."

Shaw Lane reached the final of the Sheffield Senior Cup against Frickley last year but pulled out of the Bramall Lane showpiece event as it was scheduled for the day before their play-off semi-final which they won before losing the final. This year's cup final is two days after their Easter Monday match and three before the final league game of the season.

Elliott says they will not pull out this time and hopes that his side will have won their battle with Witton Albion for the one automatic promotion place by then and can focus on doing the double.

He said: "We all felt bad that we missed out on the chance to play in a final at Bramall Lane last season. We have talked about doing the double and that would be a great achievement. Hopefully there will be a big crowd on Tuesday for a local derby in a semi-final.

"Penistone are a good team with a good manager and they will be coming to us to cause an upset. We're going into the last month of the season just looking to hold our nerve and finish the job."

Shaw Lane suffered a 1-0 loss at Basford United on Saturday, just a third league defeat of the campaign and one that ended a six-match winning run. But they were cheered up by news that title rivals Witton suffered a shock 4-3 defeat at home to lowly Rugby Town who netted an injury-time winner.

The Ducks then kept up their unbeaten home record this season as they thrashed Loughborough Dynamos 4-0 on Tuesday with all the goals coming in the first 35 minutes. The visitors scored an own goal then Gary Burnett, Ryan Qualter and Alex Byrne netted. Witton also won on Tuesday and are nine points behind the Ducks with two games in hand.
