ROBOT vacuum cleaners and lawnmowers may have been around a little while but in Penistone they’re experimenting with a robot farmer.

This clever self-driving robot is currently undergoing trials at Hunshelf Hall Farm at Green Moor.

It can find its own way around remote farmland hillsides, searching out and destroying weeds - without the need to spray the whole field.

It uses technology similar to that of ‘driverless cars’ and Dr Charles Fox, project manager behind the IBEX robot, hopes it will be an affordable tool for farmers to help keep costs down.
